Job Description
The Transportation Supervisor is responsible for the supervision and training of drivers and ensuring deliveries are made in a safe, efficient, and timely manner. This position assists with monitoring Department of Transportation (DOT) logs, ensuring drivers are in compliance with DOT regulations and company policies. The position will coordinate the tracking of all relevant information regarding drivers.
The Transportation Supervisor will perform the following duties:
  • Primarily rides with drivers for training and/or evaluation purposes.
  • Supervises associates in staffing, training coaching, performance management and problem resolution.
  • Monitors vehicle safety and trains drivers on safe usage of equipment, electronic devices and safe lifting and product-handling practices. May attend safety meetings and complete accident reports.
  • Ensures accurate completion of all delivery and driver-related paperwork.
  • Assists with scheduling and routing to ensure deliveries and pickups are made in a timely manner while minimizing expenses.
  • Assists with overall day-to-day administration of transportation and delivery functions.
  • Assist with fleet maintenance, billing, scheduling and analyzing of tractor/trailers.
  • Responsible for determining the type and number of tractor/trailers needed.
  • Set up rental of additional vehicles as needed and schedule equipment maintenance as necessary
  • Assist with calculating driver payroll, reviewing driver trip and expense reports, and identifying and resolving problems that arise with these reports.
  • Maintains and updates all relevant information on drivers such as license, DOT, medical certification, tickets for moving violations, accidents and other risk and safety related data.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
• High school diploma/GED
• 2+ years transportation experience
• Knowledge of DOT and safety regulations
• Experience with computerized fleet management systems
• Ability to travel throughout the Midwest 50% of the time for driver training and observations, including frequent overnight travel
• Must be able to work weekends and holidays as needed
• Valid driver's license and acceptable MVR
Preferred Qualifications
• Associates or 2-year technical degree
• 4+ years transportation experience including DOT and safety regulations and computerized fleet management systems
• Experience in foodservice distribution
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
• Supervisory experience
• Class A Commercial Drivers License (CDL)
• Experience working in a union environment
